  • (14/10/2009) - The Third Consortium Meeting of the WETwin Project will take place in Mali from Nov 23-28, 2009. The Project Review Meeting (Nov 24-27) will be preceded by a Twinning Workshop (Nov 23) on Scenario Generation and Vulnerability Assessment . The meeting will initiate in the city of Bamako (November 23-25) and continue in Mopti (November 26-27). A field trip to the Inner Niger Delta wetlands the local WETwin case study site - is foreseen for Nov 28.   • (12/10/09) - The Second Consortium Meeting of the WETwin Project took place in Guayaquil, Ecuador, between May 18-22, 2009. The Project Review Meeting (May 18-19 and 22) was combined with a Twinning Workshop on "the Integration of Wetlands in River Basin Management" (May 21-22). Keynote sessions for this workshop were provided by: Dr. Heather Mackay (RAMSAR), Dr. Shahbaz Khan (UNESCO-IHP), Dr. Henrique Chaves (UNESCO-HELP), Dr. Wim Douven (UNESCO-IHE) and Edi Interwies (InterSus). The important ecosystem services of the Abras de Mantequilla - a RAMSAR site and the local WETwin case study wetlands - and their relationship with their hosting river basin (Guayas) were highlighted during a field trip held on May 20. Prior to the Consortium Meeting (May 14-15), a joint WETwin/UNESCO-HELP Workshop on "Indicators / Status of River Basin Management" was held. All activities were hosted by the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL).

  • (12/10/09) - Several WETwin partners participated in the 2009 5th International SWAT Conference, held from August 5-7, 2009 in Boulder, Texas (USA). Fred F. Hattermann (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) gave a presentation on "Integration of Tropical and Sub-Tropical Wetlands in Regional Catchment Modeling" and Ann van Griensven (UNESCO-IHE) on "Modeling Wetland Functions and Services using SWAT".   • (12/10/09) - The South-African WETwin partner, IWMI, organized a Stakeholder Workshop at the local case study site, the Ga Mampa Wetlands (Olifants River Basin), on August 5, 2009. The final report of the workshop will be shared after editing. A follow-up on the stakeholder workshop is scheduled for October 14-15. In the first meeting the community and other stakeholders stressed the need for a management plan.

  • (12/10/09) - Kick-off of the Twin2Go Project (EC FP7): Twin2Go has been launched at the Kick-Off Meeting held in Osnabruck, Germany, between June 15-17, 2009. The Twin2Go Project pretends to review, consolidate and synthesize the results from research on Integrated Water Resources Management in a series of case study basins from around the world, conducted in the context of a number of EU-financed twinning projects (FP6-7), including WETwin.   • (10/06/09) - An abstract on the WETwin Project has been presented at the Final Conference of the STRIVER Project (EC FP6): ‘Integrated Water Resources Management in Theory and Practice’, held in Brussels, Belgium, from May 28-29, 2009. STRIVER is an EC-funded RTD Project designed to underpin the implementation of the EU Water Initiative. More information...?

  • (10/06/09) - The First Consortium Meeting of the WETwin Project took place in Budapest, Hungary, between Nov 24-27, 2008. The Project Kick-Off Meeting (Nov 24-25 and 27) was combined with a Twinning Workshop on "Nutrient Reduction and Nature Conservation in Wetlands" (Nov 26).
